Delegates from the University of Benin, put together by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, have met with officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police in Abuja to negotiate the renewal of the MoU on forensic training ahead of the expiration of the first cycle of five years.
The leader of the team and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration, Professor Christopher Osubor, commended the Army Command for the confidence in the University of Benin to train its officers in Forensic Science and DNA studies. He said the cordial relationship between the officers and other members of the Uniben community has strengthened the bond between the two institutions, conveying the Vice Chancellor’s desire that such a seamless relationship should continue.
Director of the Centre for Forensic and DNA Studies, Professor Eddy Ehikhamenor, outlined some of the training’s objectives, including building the Army’s capacity to develop a National database for research and crime investigations, as well as possessing a platform for Forensic screening for all purposes, especially during pandemics. He said that so far, five batches of military personnel have been trained at the Centre, adding that the importance of the scientific programme cannot be overstated.
