A total of 198 students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, have earned First Class degrees out of 14,083 graduates at the institution’s 51st Convocation and Founder’s Day ceremony.
Vice Chancellor Prof Edoba Omoregie revealed that 4,217 students obtained Second Class Upper, 7,928 received Second Class Lower, and 578 were awarded Third Class degrees.
The Founders’ Day lecture will be delivered by Nigeria’s Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, on the topic “Reforms for a Shared Prosperity,” will deliver the Convocation Lecture, themed “Making Our Universities Great,” which will be presented by Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
Omoregie praised the dedication of staff and students, noting that 15 new NUC-approved programmes will begin in the 2025/2026 session. He also confirmed that the Veterinary Medicine programme has regained accreditation after previous challenges.
“The wheel of progress is on course, with effective teaching, research, and community service at the core of our mission,” he said.
Omoregie also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing NELFUND, highlighting its role in easing students’ financial burdens and encouraging eligible students and parents to benefit from the Fund.
