The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing campus security, expanding student accommodation, and reviving abandoned projects.
During an inspection tour of ongoing developments, Prof. Offiong emphasised the need to bridge the accommodation gap amid rising student populations and security concerns. He expressed confidence in the revival of the main library project and underutilised classrooms to support teaching and learning.
At the 1,200-bed PP Hostel and other accommodation sites, the Vice-Chancellor said construction would be closely monitored to ensure timely completion. He also inspected the perimeter fencing project, calling it a vital security measure for the university community.
Prof. Offiong revealed that all stalled projects are being catalogued to assess their completion stages, with plans to engage intervention agencies such as the NDDC and the Needs Assessment Unit to re-activate them. He emphasised the need for frequent on-site inspections and strict oversight to ensure quality execution.
The Vice-Chancellor commended contractors and TETFUND for their efforts and assured that the university remains dedicated to providing infrastructure that strengthens learning, security and student welfare.
