The University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Lagos State University (LASU) have partnered to tackle the issues affecting Nigeria’s fisheries.
Kicking off the collaboration, nine scholars from both institutions have gathered to participate in a research project on the Food-Climate-Biodiversity (FCB) connection funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), a Canadian federal research funding agency.
While addressing the researchers, Prof. Sheu Akintola, Nigeria’s co-team lead and former Dean of the Faculty of Science, explained, “Our goal with the Solving FCB project is to find ways to feed millions of Nigerians with fish without depleting ocean resources, especially in the face of climate change.”
He also elaborated on the research’s impact on Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea regions.
The UNILAG-LASU researchers will work with other researchers from the Institute of Management and Public Administration, the University of Cape Coast, and the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Ghana.
