UNIMAID honours Governor Zulum, others at its 25th combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebration
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) awarded honorary doctorate degrees to Emir of Kazaure Alhaji Najib Adamu, philanthropist Chief Emeka Offor, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum during its 25th combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebration.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Mele also conferred Emeritus Professorships on Prof. Bukar Bababe, Shettims Bulakarima, and Haruna Dlakwa, in recognition of over 40 years of teaching, research, and mentorship. Mele praised the honourees for contributions to scholarship, leadership, philanthropy, and community service.
This year, 20,164 students graduated, including 66 PhDs, 1,020 Master’s degrees, 3,851 Postgraduate Diplomas, 13,624 Bachelors, and 1,699 Diplomas. Mele encouraged graduates to become lifelong learners and ambassadors of knowledge, peace, and character.
Pro-Chancellor Dr Adamu Dan Gwani urged stakeholders to support the university amid infrastructural and funding challenges. Governor Zulum announced postgraduate sponsorships for top Borno indigenes and PhD scholarships for 200 lecturers.
Represented by Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, President Bola Tinubu pledged a staff loan scheme through the Bank of Industry to support UNIMAID employees.
