UUniFI Gets New Head

Prof Tobias Sjöblom, head of the new Uppsala University Future Institutes (UUniFI)

Tobias Sjöblom, a Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, is now the head of the new Uppsala University Future Institutes (UUniFI).

While Sjöblom has been chosen as the formal manager in the university, not all directors have been appointed for its six research institutes as of December 1, 2025, when the manager took his position.

Speaking about his role, the manager disclosed, “My role as head of UUniFI involves creating the best possible conditions for the six institute directors to ensure that UUniFi reaches its goals within its given parameters.”

He added, “It also means ensuring that UUniFi can be implemented in the university’s core activities, as the funds will be used in the university’s various departments.”

Sjöblom stated that UUniFI’s initial challenges involve developing functioning models for how the institution’s funds will be used to support its core activities.

He explained, “The goal is for these models to be understood and accepted by researchers, administrators and heads of department in all the disciplinary domains. A second challenge will be to deliver such a valuable activity that UUniFI will become an obvious part of the university in the long term.”
