Prof. Jesse Uneke, the Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, has called for a more effective approach to minimise the rate at which Nigerians are infected with malaria.
While speaking on ‘Promoting evidence-informed policymaking and implementation to facilitate Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) for Malaria Subnational Tailoring (SNT),’ at an event organised by the African Institute for Health Policy and Health Systems, he said minimising malaria requires a more targeted approach instead of a one-size-fits-all method.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the stakeholders for their contributions to the malaria elimination programme, emphasising that his team has drafted the policy and necessary literature for the reduction.
He added, “The use of best available scientific evidence alone in formulating policies is our greatest undoing. We must emphasise the role of policy briefs in institutionalising evidence-informed policymaking, including the NMSP subnational tailoring.”
