The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Yobe State government, commenced a five-day workshop on Monday for 600 teachers and administrators from basic and secondary schools across Yobe State.
The training aims to build capacity for effective teaching and learning in basic education through modern techniques and the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA) methodologies in Yobe and beyond.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Yobe State, Professor Abba Idriss Adam, said the workshop will address key challenges in the education system by providing evidence-based, learner-centred, inclusive, and technology-driven teaching approaches.
Professor Adam commended the NEDC’s efforts, describing the Commission as not only a development partner but also a visionary catalyst in the educational recovery and advancement of the North-east region, particularly Yobe State.
In his welcome address, Mohammed Goni Alkali, Managing Director and CEO of NEDC, reiterated the Commission’s support for the Yobe State government and other Northeast states.
Represented by the NEDC State Coordinator, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, he confirmed that the Commission is training 600 teachers across the state’s three senatorial zones.
“We are complementing the efforts of the Yobe State government in the education sector by training 600 teachers across the three senatorial zones,” he said.
Lead Consultant at Xascony Engineering, Professor Musa Alabe, urged participants to view the workshop as an investment in their knowledge, capacity, and innovation. He assured them that his firm had provided competent resource persons to enhance their skills.
This initiative underscores NEDC’s commitment to strengthening educational capacity and improving the quality of instruction in basic and secondary education, ultimately aiming to enhance academic outcomes in the region.
