The Kwara State Government has trained 384 school support officers (SSOs) on the use of digital tools to monitor and supervise teachers across the state.
The training, organised by KwaraLEARN, lasted one week and was held between May 19 and 26. The SSOs are staff of the Universal Basic Education Board and work closely with head teachers in the 16 local government areas.
In a statement, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola, stated that the training was designed to help officers enhance school management and improve the quality of teaching and learning through the use of modern technology.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Ilorin recently, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, applauded the participants for their sacrifice and commitment to transforming the state’s education sector.
Olohungbebe charged them to continue offering their best and to translate what they have learnt during the session into practice, saying all eyes are on them to support the government’s efforts to improve learning outcomes across schools.
“Now, you have the responsibility to join the efforts to take the education sector to greater heights. We are confident that we will not blame ourselves for giving you this task. We will also not regret that the state has invested so much into moving the sector forward. You are expected to put everything you have learnt into practice,” he said.
Managing Director of KwaraLEARN, Laide Abel, said the training is not the same as the ones they had earlier held, adding that this and other educational programmes mirror the visionary quality of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“This training is not like any other training. Why is this training essential in the history of the state? You have been equipped because you are the one who will make the KwaraLEARN programme sustainable in Kwara. I want you to understand that without you, the programme will collapse, and I pray that it will not collapse in your hands,” she said.
