Abia State Governor and Visitor to Abia State University (ABSU), Dr Alex Otti, has launched multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving facilities and academic life at the institution.
The projects include a 5,000-bed student hostel, a new Faculty of Law building, a 5,000kVA transformer to enhance electricity supply and the ongoing construction of a new staff primary school.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ndukwe Okeudo, the new developments mark a significant step toward modernising the university’s learning environment. He commended Governor Otti for his commitment to upgrading infrastructure across the campus.
The Director of Works, Engr. Raymond Orioha noted that power and water challenges had long hindered operations at the university. He confirmed that installation work for the new transformer had commenced, alongside the renovation of existing hostels and the construction of the new projects.
In addition, the university has concluded interviews for new lecturers and cleared staff promotion arrears dating back to 2022, a move the management described as unprecedented in ABSU’s history.
