At 71, Dr Olusegun Fredrick Bolaji has shown that age is no barrier to learning. The former banker and lawyer was among the 217 graduands awarded doctorate degrees at Babcock University’s 2024 convocation. Speaking after the Doctoral Hooding ceremony at the university’s Amphitheatre, Bolaji said he returned to school to inspire younger generations. “There is no time you cannot pursue excellence. I want to demonstrate that you can challenge yourself and the status quo to improve. There is no limit to learning,” he said.
A native of Kogi State and a chartered accountant, Bolaji began studying law at the age of 50, earning his first degree from Lagos State University in 2004. He obtained his Master’s in 2014 at 60 before pursuing a doctorate at Babcock four years ago. He called for improved attitudes among staff in public universities, contrasting them with the student-friendly approach of private institutions.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ademola Tayo charged the doctoral graduates to use their knowledge to rebuild Nigeria, urging them to “challenge the status quo, disrupt decay, and advocate for evidence-based governance.”
