Chinedu Okeke, the top scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has shared the discipline, consistency, and sacrifices that earned him a remarkable score of 375.
Okeke, 20, a graduate of St. Jude’s Private School, Festac, attributed his success to early preparation and structured learning. “I read almost every day from 4 pm to 10 pm, practising past questions and revising my notes. I also attended Achievers Educator Academy, which provided regular CBT practice,” he said.
Okeke initially gained admission to study Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2021 but later withdrew to pursue his true passion—Mathematics and Physics. He now plans to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos. “Mechanical Engineering is something I love. It is rooted in subjects I enjoy, so I am confident I will stay motivated,” he said. He advised UTME candidates to start preparing early, attend quality tutorial centres, and focus on understanding concepts instead of cramming.
Okeke also urged the government to improve hands-on learning and modernise the school curriculum to better equip students for the job market. “We need more digital skills and practical education to prepare us for real-world challenges,” he added.
