Governor Alex Otti states that more than 700,000 children across Abia State now benefit from the state’s free and compulsory basic education policy.
The Governor disclosed this while addressing the public during his monthly media briefing.
According to him, the policy took effect on January 1, 2024.
ABN TV reported that the Governor made this announcement while addressing the public during his monthly media briefing, noting that the spike in school enrollment necessitated the urgent recruitment of teachers.
Governor Otti said that the state initially hired 5,000 teachers but, due to rising enrollment figures, had approved the recruitment of an additional 4,000.
He added that the government invests in teacher capacity development, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), to ensure students are future-ready.
“Our goal is to equip children to thrive in today’s tech-driven world—one of AI, robotics, and electric cars,” he emphasised.
