The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, has urged governments at all levels to increase investment in education, citing its far-reaching benefits for national development. Mr Udeze made the call in a message to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration in Awka. He also appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to prioritise sustained contributions to the sector’s growth.
He encouraged parents, teachers, and guardians to share the responsibility of proper child training, urging them to continue playing active roles in shaping future generations who would contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.
Commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his administration’s commitment to educational advancement in the state, Mr Udeze acknowledged the provision of free education from primary to secondary school level and the recruitment of over 8,000 teachers as significant milestones aimed at securing a brighter future for Anambra children.
He noted that the State Assembly had passed the Child Rights Law to ensure that children in the state are protected and not subjected to any form of discrimination.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Emma Madu, the Speaker praised the contributions of children from the state in academics, sports, arts, and entertainment. He encouraged them to remain focused on their studies and avoid actions that could compromise their future.
