The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has pledged to sustain efforts to transform Nigeria’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education into globally competitive institutions.
Speaking on Monday at a town hall meeting in Ilorin for stakeholders in the North-central zone, TETFund Board of Trustees member Nurudeen Adeyemi highlighted the Agency’s role in advancing higher education under the “Renewed Hope” vision.
Adeyemi said thousands of academic staff have benefited from sponsorships for PhD and Master’s programmes both in Nigeria and abroad. The Agency has also supported professional development, conference participation, and teaching practice to ensure a skilled and globally competitive workforce.
On infrastructure, he noted that TETFund has funded the construction of lecture theatres, laboratories, libraries, ICT facilities, student hostels, and administrative buildings, with some projects delivered through public-private partnerships. These investments, he said, are transforming campuses and improving the teaching and learning environment.
The town hall provided a platform for engagement with beneficiary institutions, community leaders, and policymakers to strengthen accountability and transparency in the Agency’s interventions.
Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr Kamoru Kadir, praised TETFund for its support, saying the Agency had “changed the face” of the institution and prevented many tertiary colleges from becoming “glorified secondary schools.”
