Professor Olalekan Asikhia, Deputy VC at Caleb University
Olalekan Asikhia, a Professor of Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship and the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, Strategy, and Administration) at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, has said that universities play a significant role in reducing poverty and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Asikhia said this while delivering the 57th inaugural lecture titled ‘It is Time for Functional Businesses to Kill Poverty in Africa,’ at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
The professor mentioned that universities can empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty by creating curricula aligned with national development priorities.
He added, “This approach not only prepares graduates for the dynamic demands of the modern economy, but also positions universities as pivotal contributors to national competitiveness and economic development.”
In addition, he mentioned that technological innovation and university-led research can provide practical solutions to economic challenges through a three-dimensional model of scientific, educational and cultural poverty alleviation.
