ASUU Not on Strike — Federal Government Confirms

The Federal Government has said that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is not on strike, contrary to recent media reports. Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, made this known in Abuja, saying that universities across Nigeria remain open and stable. He said the peaceful situation in schools is due to the government’s steady talks and respect for staff concerns.

Dr Alausa explained that this stability has not been achieved in decades and is a result of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on enhancing staff welfare and human development. He stressed that students’ education is very important and will not be interrupted. The government, he said, will continue to meet union demands in a gradual and respectful manner. Dr Alausa advised Nigerians to disregard fake news about ASUU going on strike, emphasising that the unity and progress in the education sector must be protected.
