Religion can help a country grow, but is it always needed? In a recent article, public thinker Abiodun Komolafe asked some deep questions about how religion connects to a nation’s progress. He pointed out that a country like China, where only 5% of people are Christians, is doing very well in business and technology. On the other hand, many Western countries that brought Christianity to others are now seeing fewer people going to church. Some are even selling church buildings.
Komolafe also asked what happens to people in places like India and Japan, where most are not Christians. These countries are also doing well, so does this mean only those who believe in Christ can succeed or be saved? He reminded readers that some of Nigeria’s past good policies, like free education, came from global ideas, not just religion. In the end, he said religion can help growth if used with wisdom, not force.
