The Federal University, Dutse, in Jigawa State, has secured a ₦1 billion intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to build a state-of-the-art innovation hub, aimed at equipping students with skills to combat Unemployment.
Vice‑Chancellor Professor Abdulkarim Sabo said the project would nurture entrepreneurs and job creators rather than job seekers. “The hub will promote a culture of innovation, creativity and economic growth,” he told reporters. The complex will house a product design laboratory, a 3D printing facility, and a software lab for coding and digital product development. It will also include workshops for textiles, leathercraft and fashion, alongside biotechnology, electronics, and eco‑laboratories focused on recycling and sustainable design.
Other facilities will cover refrigeration and air‑conditioning, giving students practical training with modern simulation equipment. Officials say the hub will connect students and staff with expert mentorship, advanced technology and networking opportunities, creating an environment where ideas can be turned into viable products. University authorities believe the initiative could transform the campus into a centre for innovation in northern Nigeria, positioning graduates to drive economic development and reduce reliance on government jobs.
