Prof Victor Olawale Adetimirin, VC of Edo State University, elected President of NPBA and conferred with its Fellowship
Professor Victor Olawale Adetimirin, Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyamho, has been elected President of the Nigerian Plant Breeders Association (NPBA) and conferred with its Fellowship.
The announcement was made during the Association’s 3rd International Conference, held from September 24 to 25, 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja. The conference focused on “Crop Improvement for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, and the Environment.”
Professor Adetimirin was recognised for his contributions to plant breeding and agricultural development in Nigeria. He pledged to strengthen research collaboration among NPBA members, research institutes, and seed companies, and to equip young plant breeders with modern technologies.
He also emphasised the Association’s role in advocating policies aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices across Africa.
The appointment positions Professor Adetimirin to lead initiatives that integrate research, innovation, and policy advocacy in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
