Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare and pro-education advocate, calls for a reform of the Nigerian educational sector. Alex stated that the educational sector needs transformation. He emphasised the importance of this sector in the country and how it serves as a building block of every economy.
Onyia discussed the benefits of implementing sound educational programmes and academic funding to support students and teachers. In his X post, Onyia addressed the importance of funding education in the country and suggested that all teachers hold a second-class upper degree or higher. “Being a teacher should be something of great pride, and the academic standards should be very high,” The CEO added.
In his discussion, Onyia referenced Finland, where primary and secondary school teachers are required to hold a master’s degree and receive high pay. Onyia proposed a N400,000 monthly salary for teachers, following his previous proposal of N300,000 monthly pay, as well as car loans. He requested biannual license renewals linked to ongoing certifications and programmes.
“A bachelor’s degree holder is more than qualified to handle problems at the primary and secondary school levels. It is not about the class of degree,” he added. Onyia’s vision reflects a desire to enhance the quality of education for the younger generation. He also vows to set high academic standards if he gets the chance.
