Leaders and stakeholders of Enugu North Senatorial District, also known as Nsukka Zone, have commended Governor Peter Mbah for his inclusive governance and urged him to stay on the path that has earned widespread approval from Nigerians.
They also lauded the Governor’s remarkable progress in various sectors, especially education, politics, and security, stressing that his administration had well-treated the 102 wards within the senatorial zone.
They stated this at a maiden Dialogue Series 1, which was organised under the auspices of the Enugu State Coalition for Progress, Enugu North Senatorial Zone Branch, at Adada House in Nsukka.
The event, themed ‘Dr Peter Mbah Administration – The Journey So Far (Education, Politics, and Security)’, was intended to assess the impact of Mbah’s administration on the Nsukka Zone during his first two years in office.
It also allowed the stakeholders to bring their particular challenges to the Governor’s attention.
A former Economic Adviser to the President, Prof. Osita Ogbu, praised the Governor for turning the state from a civil servant’s state to an entrepreneurial zone by building structures and industries that would bring about the transformation.
Ogbu also stated that Mbah had made plans to strengthen the state’s economic base so that it would not rely heavily on federal allocations.
He compared Mbah to renowned world leaders such as the former leaders of China, Malaysia, and Israel, who successfully transformed their countries by focusing on progress and overcoming obstacles.
Ogbu stated that Mbah, in his developmental transformation of the state, does not discriminate against those who voted for him and those who did not, as he views Enugu State as his constituency.
“We are among the three states in the country that can say bye-bye to Federal Allocation,” Ogbu said.
A Special Adviser to the Governor of Education, Chinyere Onyeisi, hailed Mbah for disrupting the state’s significant developmental challenges.
She said, “Before now, Enugu had a high rate of out-of-school children, with an alarming statistic. We also faced challenges, including a dearth of teachers, inadequate capacity building among existing teachers, and a lack of curriculum updates. The most significant challenge was the inadequate infrastructure.
“But now, Enugu State Smart Green Schools came into sight and disrupted all these challenges.
“Governor Mbah started by providing solutions to the problems of basic education and, when brought, ended the number of out-of-school children with the school feeding programme and the Smart Green Schools, free with free books and school uniforms. As you can see, schools are located in all 260 wards of Enugu State. Most importantly, the skills children gain from experiential learning cannot be underestimated”.
