Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education through technology, stating that investments in digital learning are transforming the state’s basic education system. Speaking at the opening of a two-day retreat organised by the State House Press Corps in Enugu, Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Sam Chijioke, said the government’s Smart Schools project is equipping children with innovation and problem-solving skills from as early as age three.
The workshop, with the theme “Artificial Intelligence Utilisation for Effective Journalism,” focused on the role of AI in media practice. The Governor noted that AI is also playing a critical role in education delivery in the state. He said that all 260 wards in the state now have functional Smart Schools, which utilise technology to enhance literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking among pupils. “The transformation has been mind-blowing,” he said.
Mbah encouraged journalists to embrace Artificial Intelligence as a tool for improving their work, just as the state is leveraging technology to enhance learning outcomes and public service delivery. He also highlighted the establishment of a 24-hour Command and Control Centre in the state, designed to improve security and emergency response, as part of broader efforts to integrate technology across sectors. The Governor stated that education and infrastructure remain top priorities for his administration, with ongoing reforms aimed at preparing the younger generation for a future driven by technology.
