The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, has described President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), as a demonstration of his commitment to advancing education and human capital development in Nigeria.
Oba Akinyemi stated that the upgrade would significantly transform the educational landscape of Yewa Land. The presidential approval was announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary on Wednesday.
The monarch expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, noting that the establishment of the new university is expected to provide young people with access to advanced technology and innovative learning, thereby equipping them to make meaningful contributions to regional progress.
He commended President Tinubu for what he described as visionary leadership and dedication to the development of Yewa Land and the state of Ogun.
Oba Akinyemi also acknowledged the efforts of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, in championing the establishment of a federal university in the region.
He urged politicians from Ogun West to prioritise the collective interest of the zone over individual ambitions and to avoid divisive politics.
“The conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to FUTI is a significant development that is expected to transform the educational landscape of Yewa Land,” he said.
He added that the people of Yewa Land are celebrating the achievement, describing it as a realisation of their long-held aspiration. According to him, the upgrade would empower the youth and support broader development across Ogun State.
