The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, has called on Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state’s lawmakers to urgently rehabilitate the Osiele–Camp Road in Odeda Local Government Area.
In separate letters addressed to the governor, Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Ogun West), Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (Ogun Central), and Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the students described the road as deplorable and hazardous to their lives.
SUG President David Dokunmu and General Secretary Zainab Ajisafe, who signed the letters, stated that the road is the primary gateway linking Abeokuta to the college and has become a daily hazard to students, staff, and motorists, especially during the rainy season.
They appealed for prompt intervention ahead of the college’s convocation and 50th anniversary celebration, emphasising that the road would serve as the main route for dignitaries, alumni, and guests attending the event.
The students commended Senator Adeola for his support, including the provision of mini-buses, 50 solar-powered streetlights, and bursary awards, and thanked Senator Salisu for promoting digital literacy. They urged both lawmakers to use their offices to fast-track the road’s reconstruction.
The union also sought an ICT empowerment programme for students, which would involve the provision of laptops and desktops for departmental labs, digital skills training, certification programmes, and public-private partnership–driven ICT bootcamps and internships.
