The Federal Government has set its sights on expanding medical training capacity at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as part of its N4 billion TETFund 2025 High-Impact Intervention for Medical Colleges across 18 universities nationwide.
A three-man delegation from the Ministerial Monitoring Committee, led by Professor Sulyman Alabi, visited UNILAG on Monday, July 21, 2025, to assess the university’s readiness to double admission quotas for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing. Other members of the delegation included Arc—Erivwo Inene, Director of TETFund Special Intervention, and Mrs. Sa’adatu Jimoh, the Committee’s Secretary.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Alabi stated that the intervention aimed to improve infrastructure, ensure academic relevance, and equip medical schools to meet Nigeria’s growing healthcare demands. “This is not just about buildings but about strengthening systems that sustain quality medical education,” he noted.
UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, who represented Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, pledged the university’s commitment to meeting all requirements, including technical designs and project proposals. The committee later toured the College of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, and the TETFund Presidential Special Intervention Project Building, commending UNILAG’s infrastructure readiness and strategic academic vision.
