The Federal Government has pledged full support to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (CNMF) Conference for the West African region in Abuja.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by NANNM executives at the State House, noting that the event aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s health sector reform agenda.
He congratulated the association for securing the hosting rights, the first in West Africa, and urged the leadership to present a clear roadmap to ensure seamless government collaboration.
NANNM President, Haruna Mamman, said the conference, slated for April 20-24, 2026, would draw participants from 56 Commonwealth countries, including the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
He noted that the event would enhance Nigeria’s global reputation in healthcare, foster knowledge exchange and strengthen professional capacity among nurses and midwives.
Mamman requested federal support in visa facilitation, logistics, and financial assistance, stressing that the initiative aligns with the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to advance health education and practice.
