The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), Chibuzo Ekwekwuo, has charged law students and young lawyers to approach legal education with a focus on social justice and human development.
Speaking at the 2025 Law and Humanity Summit in Abuja, themed “The Quintessential Pro Bono Lawyer: Providing Value Without Compromising Professional Standards,” Ekwekwuo stated that legal training must extend beyond theory to equip future lawyers with the capacity to utilise the law as a force for good.
He noted that “the law is meant for man, not man for the law,” emphasising that the profession’s actual value lies in advancing fairness, justice and peace. Ekwekwuo warned that without a commitment to public-interest lawyering, society risks descending into inequality and oppression.
He urged students to uphold the ideals of pro bono service and align their education with practical solutions that benefit the community.
According to him, PPDC remains dedicated to supporting institutions and learners in building a new generation of justice-oriented legal professionals.
