Forum Faults Zamfara Governor Over Polytechnic Staff Sack

Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara State

The Zamfara Good Governance Forum has accused Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of ordering politically motivated sackings targeting staff of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara.
In a statement on Friday, the Forum condemned the removal of three officials from the Rima River Basin Development Authority Staff Quarters, describing the move as “unlawful, vindictive and a gross abuse of power.”

The affected staff — Dr Lawal Umar Maradun, Malam Jamilu Hassan, and Malam Abdulhakim Yusuf — were allegedly singled out for their perceived loyalty to the All Progressives Congress. One of the occupants reportedly invested over ₦20 million in renovations before receiving the eviction notice.

Forum Secretary, Comrade Salim Abubakar, accused the governor of weaponising state institutions to punish perceived opponents while sparing defaulters aligned with him politically.

He said the action violated the joint housing agreement between the Rima Basin Authority and the Polytechnic, which requires a joint committee to approve any allocation or revocation.

The group demanded an immediate reversal of the evictions, reinstatement of the affected staff and compensation for their losses. It also threatened legal action if the governor failed to retract the decision and apologise, warning that the development undermines due process and good governance.
