The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has experienced unprecedented growth under the leadership of Prof Sunday Abayomi Fasina, who assumed office as Vice-Chancellor on February 11, 2021.
A professor of soil science and renowned administrator, Fasina has expanded FUOYE’s faculties from eight to eighteen and increased student enrolment from 15,000 to nearly 60,000.
His strategic leadership has positioned the university as the fourth most sought-after in Nigeria, according to JAMB data, and among the top 11 universities in the country, as ranked by Times Higher Education.
Fasina’s administration has delivered over 150 infrastructural projects, including new lecture halls, laboratories, a business school and an innovation hub, primarily funded through internally generated revenue. His initiatives, such as the FUOYE Business School and the Institute of Part-Time Studies, as well as other revenue-driven ventures, have strengthened the university’s financial base.
As his tenure ends on February 11, 2026, the Governing Council, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has commenced the process of selecting a new Vice-Chancellor, with elections for Senate and Congregation representatives already conducted transparently.
