FUTA VC Reveals Cause of Infrastructure Decline

Prof. Adenike Oladiji, VC of FUTA, at the eighth Elizade University Annual Registry Lecture

Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, has said that the decline in infrastructure and personnel in Nigerian universities is due to economic factors.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this at the eighth Elizade University Annual Registry Lecture titled ‘The Nigerian University System, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.’

She expressed that while the university system has suffered and the quality of service delivery has dropped, universities can study what used to work or learn from what other nations that once looked up to Nigeria are doing right.
Oladiji added, “With collective resolve to make things right, like the proverbial prodigal son, we can turn things right again.”

In addition, she noted that the issue of examination malpractice and money or sex-for-grade stems from the generalisation of university education.
