The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) is set to collaborate with Triple Helix Nigeria (THN) and Ox Founders UK to enhance innovation and translate research into practical business ideas. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced during a visit by both groups to the university on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The meeting took place at the Academic Publishing Centre on the university’s main campus. Professor Kuta said FUTMINNA has tremendous research potential that can help solve real problems in Nigeria. He added that the university is creating a Technology and Innovation Park, where research projects will be showcased daily to attract investors, rather than just once a year during convocation. He promised that the university is fully ready to support the new partnership, especially in turning research into marketable products and services.
Professor Eucharia O. Nwaichi, who leads Triple Helix Nigeria, explained that THN is focused on joining the efforts of schools, industries, and government to support national development. She introduced their 10:10:10:10 Vision, which encourages 10 Nigerian universities, including FUTMINNA, to own shares in at least 10 publicly listed companies in the next 10 years. The goal is to make universities active players in Nigeria’s economy. She said THN also works with bodies like TETFund and NCDMB to find funding for research and business projects.
Lucas JacoBeui from Ox Founders UK said his group helps students connect with successful business leaders. The Oxford-based group wants to teach students real business skills for today’s world. Professor Evans Egwim of FUTMINNA stated that the partnership will enable the school to apply science and technology to address both local and global problems.
