Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing two key bills into law, which led to the establishment of a Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku and a Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Billiri, both in Gombe State.
The governor described the President’s approval as a sign of true leadership that prioritises people above all else. He said the move would significantly improve education and healthcare in the state and the North-East region. “These institutions will not only improve access to quality education and healthcare but also create jobs and promote development,” the governor said.
Governor Yahaya also appreciated Honourable Ali Isa J.C. and Honourable Abdullahi El-Rasheed for sponsoring the bills that made the creation of the institutions possible. He praised their commitment to the progress of their communities and the state as a whole. He also commended the National Assembly and other stakeholders for their support in passing the bills.
The newly established Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku will train teachers to handle students with special needs. This is expected to help fill a gap in Nigeria’s education system, where inclusive learning has often been neglected. The Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Billiri will provide advanced treatment for trauma and bone-related cases. It will help reduce the burden on other hospitals and serve patients from Gombe and neighbouring states.
Governor Yahaya stated that the new institutions align with his administration’s efforts to enhance education and healthcare. He promised full support to ensure the smooth take-off and operation of both projects. “This is a new beginning for Gombe. These institutions will support our work at the state level and make Gombe a centre of excellence,” he said, while also reaffirming his support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
