The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has hosted its 2025 public lecture at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
While delivering his lecture, Olusegun Vincent, FCA, a professor of accounting at the School of Management & Social Sciences, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, called for a rethink of the accounting profession and training.
The professor clarified that accounting has undergone significant changes due to globalisation, technological advancements, and regulatory pressures, posing challenges for accounting professionals and educators.
He said, “For accounting to remain relevant and trusted, educators, practitioners, regulators, and professional bodies need to collaborate to reshape the profession’s future.”
In addition, he emphasised the need to blend technical expertise, technological literacy, and strategic thinking with accounting education.
