ICAN Launches Aviation Chapter to Boost Financial Standards in the Sector

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has announced the launch of its Aviation Chapter to promote financial discipline and ethical leadership in the country’s aviation sector.

According to the institute, the new chapter will serve as a forum for members working or interested in aviation, offering a space for knowledge sharing, professional growth, and engagement on financial matters affecting airlines, airports, regulators, and other key players.

ICAN said the move was in recognition of the sector’s unique financial challenges and growth potential.

“By bringing together our members with specialised knowledge, we aim to contribute significantly to the sector’s sustainable development and adherence to the highest standards of financial management and corporate governance.

“The newly formed chapter will focus on several key objectives, including Professional excellence: Organising workshops, seminars, and training programmes tailored to the specific financial needs of the aviation industry,” a statement signed by John Italume from ICAN read.

Italume said the chapter would facilitate the exchange of best practices, insights, and research findings among members working in the aviation sector.

He also said the chapter will help people engage with policymakers and regulatory bodies on financial and economic issues affecting the aviation industry, amongst others.

The interim leadership of the ICAN Aviation Chapter has been appointed, comprising experienced chartered accountants with extensive backgrounds in aviation finance, Airport management and strategic leadership. Ayodele Olatiregun shall be invested as the Pioneer Chairman alongside other executive members and Airport professionals in the Aviation Industry.

The launch event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 22 2025, at the Victoria Garden Conference and Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos. It will bring together top stakeholders from the aviation industry, finance professionals, regulatory agencies, and government representatives.
