The Ilorin Women Association has launched an educational support initiative, distributing books and learning materials to public primary schools across four Local Government Areas in the Ilorin Emirate. The programme aims to enhance foundational education in the region.
The flag-off ceremony occurred on Monday at Karuma LGEA Primary School in Ilorin. Kwara State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, attended the event and donated over 600 exercise books to support the cause. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and fostering educational development throughout the state.
Dr. Nuru highlighted the strides made under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership, including initiatives such as the KwaraLEARN programme. Launched in 2022, KwaraLEARN has significantly improved learning outcomes, teacher accountability, and the integration of digital learning across the state’s public primary schools. The programme has increased student enrollment from 120,000 to 180,000 in two years and reduced absenteeism by 50%.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, praised the Ilorin Women Association’s initiative, noting that it complements the state’s efforts to provide educational materials and resources to pupils across the Ilorin Emirate. He noted that such collaborations are vital in advancing quality education and promoting an inclusive educational system.
Representing the Ilorin Women Association, Alhaja Asimi Yusuf conveyed the message of the association’s coordinator, Prof. Aishat Gobir. She noted the transformative power of education in driving national development, empowering individuals, and uplifting communities. She noted that investing in education is equivalent to investing in hope and progress. She emphasised the collective responsibility of families, communities, and civil society to ensure that every child, especially every girl, has access to quality education.
This initiative highlights the significance of community engagement in educational advancement. It reflects the shared commitment of both governmental and non-governmental entities to foster a conducive learning environment for all children in Kwara State.
