JAMB has uncovered major issues surrounding Chinedu Okeke, the top scorer in the 2025 UTME. According to the board, Okeke is from Lagos State, not Anambra as widely claimed online. JAMB said this was confirmed through data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). It was also revealed that Okeke is already a 400-level medical student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, having gained admission through the 2021 UTME using his Lagos identity.
However, he wrote the 2025 UTME again, this time changing his details and state of origin to Anambra, in an attempt to switch to a programme in Mechanical Engineering.
JAMB accused him of manipulating records and attempting to exploit the state quota twice—first in Lagos, then in Anambra. The board described this as unfair and in violation of admission rules. JAMB also criticised those defending Okeke online, stating that the case is about accountability, not persecution, and that it will rely solely on verified facts.
