The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set 150 as the new minimum cut-off score for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. For polytechnics and colleges of education, the cut-off is 100, while colleges of nursing sciences have a cut-off of 140 marks. The matriculation board made this announcement through its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday. The decision to adopt the cut-off marks was reached during the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja, where heads of universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions came together to agree on the scores.
These national cut-off marks are important as they help the different institutions decide who qualifies for admission into their schools. However, individual institutions are free to set their cut-off points but cannot lower them below the national minimum. This year also saw a significant improvement in UTME performance, with more students scoring above 200 compared to previous years, despite some reported challenges during the examinations.
