The Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Umar Namadi, visited the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) headquarters in Abuja on April 7, 2025, to discuss ways to improve basic education in the state.
His visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between Jigawa and UBEC, with a focus on addressing key challenges such as infrastructure maintenance and teacher shortages in the state’s schools.
Governor Namadi spoke on his administration’s commitment to enhancing educational outcomes across Jigawa, noting that women in the state play a vital role in encouraging parents to enrol children, especially girls, in school.
He pointed out that the state had implemented several strategies to boost school enrollment and community engagement.
In response, UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba commended Jigawa for the timely payment of counterpart funds and effective use of UBEC-supported projects.
She also informed the governor about Jigawa’s inclusion in the Hope-Edu World Bank-funded project, which will address key issues in the state’s basic education sector.
Additionally, Garba announced UBEC’s plans to roll out targeted capacity-building programs aimed at enhancing the skills of teachers and education managers in the state.
