- Kano State Government transports 588 students to 13 northern states under the Students Exchange Programme

The Kano State Government has transported 588 students to 13 northern states under the 2025/2026 Students Exchange Programme. The initiative is designed to promote unity and cultural integration among young people across the region.

The students were conveyed to Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Taraba, Nasarawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, and Kwara states. According to the Ministry of Education, another 78 students will leave for Niger and Benue on September 30.

Kano is among the 19 northern states participating in the long-running exchange scheme, which allows students to study outside their home states while learning about Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

Speaking after the students’ departure on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Auwal Muhammad Mustapha, assured that the state would continue to prioritise the safe transport and welfare of all participants. The programme is widely seen as a way to strengthen regional unity through education.
