A socio-cultural group, the Aweleka Social Club of Nigeria, has expanded its scholarship programme to cover more than 100 primary and secondary school students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
At a ceremony in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State, the group stated that beneficiaries were selected from 17 schools in the community and one in Lagos, based on financial need. The scheme, run in partnership with Harvest Haven Farms, covers uniforms, books, sandals, examination fees, and registration for senior school certificate examinations.
Club president Obi Onyetonekwu said the initiative aimed to support indigent but bright students. “We currently support 104 primary school pupils and four secondary school students. Some of our past beneficiaries have even advanced to the university level,” he said.
Chiedu Okafor, Chairman of Harvest Haven Farms, stated that the goal was to “empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and decision-makers” despite the challenges in the education sector.
The group also urged the Delta State Government to declare a state of emergency in education, citing the poor state of infrastructure in public schools. Teachers at the event commended the scheme, saying it had rekindled pupils’ interest in learning.
