Kaduna State University (KASU) held its first-ever “Pitch Day” on October 13 2025, at the University’s 500-seater Pharmacy Hall, aiming to foster entrepreneurship and innovation among students.
The event, themed “Your Idea is Powerful: Let’s Build It Together”, brought together students, staff, and entrepreneurs. Key attendees included Dr Jamila Mohammed, Director of the Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre (ERDC), Dr Usman Yahaya, Deputy Director of ERDC (Innovation and Incubation Support), and the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellors, Prof. Helen Afang Andow and Prof. Yusha’u Ango.
Dr Mohammed described the event as a platform to shape minds and inspire creative thinking, while Dr Yahaya highlighted its role in mentorship and encouraging students to “dream, dare, and do.”
Sixteen student innovators presented ideas ranging from renewable energy solutions to digital technologies. After judging, Ashimaai Briquette Blaze, promoted by Asiya Yusuf Umar, won first place and a prize of ₦100,000. Janan Haven by Furqan Kamal Bello and Heartball Media by Joshua Yusha’u Lazarus placed second and third, receiving ₦70,000 and ₦40,000, respectively.
The ten best ideas have been selected for incubation at KASU’s Entrepreneurship Centre, reinforcing the University’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and practical innovation among its students.
