The Kebbi State Government has dismissed reports alleging that the state ranked last in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) results, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The Ministry of Basic Education, in a statement, clarified that public schools in Kebbi have not participated in NECO examinations since 2022, following the government’s adoption of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as the sole examining body for state-sponsored candidates.
“This means that for the past four years, no public secondary school in Kebbi State has registered students for NECO. Therefore, any report ranking the state’s performance in NECO is baseless and cannot be substantiated,” the ministry stated.
The government explained that only private schools in the state still register students for NECO, representing a small portion of the total student population. It stressed that using their results to judge the entire state’s performance was unfair.
The statement reaffirmed Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to education reform, noting that his administration has consistently invested in infrastructure, teacher training, and policies to improve learning outcomes.
“Governor Idris is a seasoned educationist whose policies are visibly transforming the education sector. His dedication to repositioning Kebbi’s schools remains unwavering,” the ministry added.
The government urged the public to disregard the ranking reports, maintaining that the state’s education system is on a steady path of progress under the current administration.
