The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says 68 inmates in Kano State have passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
The State Command’s spokesperson, CSC Musbahu Lawan, confirmed the development on Monday, stating that the candidates sat under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, which is fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.
He said the achievement reflects the Correctional Service Act 2019, which promotes rehabilitation through education and vocational training.
“This success also reflects the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging heads of custodial centres nationwide to enrol inmates in both academic and vocational programmes,” Lawan said.
The Controller of Corrections in Kano, Ado Inuwa, described the performance as “a turning point” and wished the beneficiaries success in their reformation journey.
Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for supporting inmate welfare. She said the government remained committed to providing opportunities that would “empower inmates to return as positive ambassadors for themselves and society.”
