The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, marked his 60th birthday at the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja, where he launched the registration of 100 inmates for the 2025 NABTEB and NECO examinations.
Abbas, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr Chamberlain Dunku, said he chose to celebrate with inmates to show compassion and promote inclusive governance. He noted that every Nigerian, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the chance to hope, learn, and rebuild.
According to the Nigerian Correctional Service, 57 inmates were registered for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), while 43 enrolled for the National Examinations Council (NECO).
The Speaker explained that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to rehabilitating inmates through education, skills acquisition, and personal growth. He emphasised that equipping inmates with knowledge and skills would facilitate their reintegration into society and decrease the likelihood of reoffending after completing their sentences.
