The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Prof Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has urged African governments, academia, civil society, and the private sector to unite behind a shared vision of innovation-driven development.
He made the call on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, while addressing the opening of the 9th U6+ International Conference at the University of The Gambia.
Speaking on the theme, “Celebrating Achievements, Addressing Challenges, and Envisioning Brighter Futures for Africa,” Jimoh said education, health, and sustainable industries remain vital to the continent’s transformation.
He commended Africa’s advances in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy, noting that young innovators and entrepreneurs are shaping solutions with global impact. He also highlighted the continent’s growing cultural influence, which has reshaped global perceptions of Africa.
However, he warned that persistent issues such as poverty, inequality, weak infrastructure, climate change, and political instability continue to hinder progress. He called for youth empowerment, good governance, transparent resource management, and stronger engagement with the African diaspora.
