LASU Disability Support Office celebrated the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On December 3 2025, the Lagos State University (LASU) Disability Support Office celebrated the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, with the theme “Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.” The event featured a rally on the Main Campus in Ojo to raise awareness among students and staff.

Represented by the Registrar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello highlighted LASU’s ongoing initiatives, including inclusive education, supportive policies, health services, scholarships, and sponsorships. She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to ensuring equal access and opportunities for persons with special needs.

Professor Ife Abodunrin, Head of Educational Foundations and Counselling Psychology, commended LASU for admitting students with special needs across faculties and providing accommodations and academic support. He urged the community to assist peers through note-taking, transcription, and guidance.

The ceremony’s highlight was the presentation of the “Legacy Award for Advancing Disability Support and Inclusive Education” and the book The Joy of Signing to the Vice-Chancellor. Staff, students, and university leaders were in attendance.
