The Eko Centennial Lions Club has donated first aid kits and waste bins to five primary schools in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State as part of its effort to promote health and hygiene in schools. The beneficiary schools are Methodist Primary School, Oga Primary School, Ayangburen Primary School, Muslim Primary School, and African Bethel Primary School. The items were presented on Monday during a handover ceremony attended by school officials and local education authorities.
President of the club, Lion Kehinde Mustapha, said the donation marked the beginning of the Lions Club’s new service year, which commenced on July 1.
She stated that the intervention was designed to enhance the condition of public schools by addressing basic health and sanitation needs. “By providing waste bins, we are encouraging environmental cleanliness among pupils. The first aid kits will help teachers respond quickly to minor injuries before further medical care is sought,” she said.
The club’s secretary, Lion Mufutau Oladele, called on members of the public to support community development through organised platforms like the Lions Club. He said more people joining such efforts would help extend support to schools and other institutions that require attention. Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Odumbo Abiodun, commended the club for the gesture, describing it as a practical show of concern for the welfare of schoolchildren.
“We appreciate this donation and the values it represents. You have shown that making a difference does not always require large resources. What matters is the intention and the impact,” he said. Abiodun assured that the items would be appropriately used and maintained by the beneficiary schools. He also expressed interest in joining the club, noting that such initiatives make a meaningful contribution to public service. The donation is part of the Lions Club’s ongoing outreach to improve learning environments and promote public health through local partnerships.
