Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has arrived in Abuja for a meeting of the Malala Fund’s Board of Directors, with a focus on strengthening efforts to keep Nigerian girls in school.
The activist, who co-founded the Malala Fund after surviving a Taliban attack in Pakistan in 2012, will meet government officials, civil society leaders and girl education advocates during her visit.
Her agenda includes pushing for more education financing, backing policies that enable married and pregnant girls to return to school, and supporting education as a tool to end child marriage.
Malala will also meet young women supported by the Malala Fund to hear their experiences and priorities. She is joined by the Fund’s CEO, Lena Alfi, her father and co-founder, Ziauddin Yousafzai, and board members.
Nigeria is a priority country in the Fund’s 2025–2030 strategy. Since 2014, the organisation has invested more than $8 million in local groups working to remove barriers to education.
Malala’s visit comes at what the Fund described as a pivotal moment for Nigeria, as the government and partners seek more substantial commitments to ensure every girl completes 12 years of schooling.
