MTN Nigeria has donated 600 learning tablets to 12 government secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a move praised by the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, as a significant step toward enhancing digital learning in public schools.
The donation was officially presented on Friday, with the minister, represented by her Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Michael Bawa, thanking MTN for its support of education and for helping students access digital tools. She said this donation is not just about technology but about investing in the future of Nigerian children and promoting national development. Mahmoud said the gesture supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to provide every Nigerian child with access to quality education and digital opportunities. She urged students to use the tablets for learning and creativity, and encouraged teachers to incorporate digital tools into their classroom activities.
Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman of MTN Nigeria’s Board, stated that the company is committed to helping Nigerian students benefit from a modern, connected life. He announced that MTN has already purchased 4,600 learning tablets for public schools across the country as part of its effort to support digital education nationwide. Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, represented by Kolawole Olabashola, also commended MTN. He said this donation would help FCT schools compete with schools globally.
The 12 schools that received the tablets include Government Secondary Schools in Wuse II, Garki, Gwagwalada, Gwarinpa, Mpape, and Kwali, among others. This kind gesture from MTN is expected to improve learning, promote digital skills among students, and reduce the gap between students in urban and rural schools.
